The most beautiful thing for a designer is not when we receive a big project...

Maybe it is beautiful, but it's much more beautiful when the design we create gets approved right away & has minimal revisions. Here are some tips you might want to try:

  1. Understand what the objective is

You can start by understanding what the goal is, what the objective is, what the outcome looks like, and what the client or superior wants. You can hold a one-hour meeting to discuss this.

  2. Create a plan

Planning here is more about where you want to execute first? what the concept is like? where the references will come from? More or less like that. This can improve your strategy in working on the project.

  3. Create a Mood board

You can take some relevant design references that are related to the project, no need to take too many, just enough.

  4. Always maintain communication

Communication is very important whether it’s just asking for a review, seeking feedback, or updating project progress. Because with communication, everything can move dynamically.

  5. Create design alternatives

Instead of spending a lot of time on one design, it’s better if you try to create a few design alternatives, 1 or 2 designs, who knows one of the alternatives might be suitable.

In addition, being open to suggestions, criticism & input can help you in improvising existing designs.

Although there will always be revisions, but those revisions can be anticipated with that attitude. If you want to accept suggestions, you can try those suggestions, there's nothing wrong with it; who knows that’s the sweet spot between the design you create and the desires of the client or superior.

Q: "What if the design ends up being rejected, and revisions are still numerous and beyond expectations?"
A: "Learn to act professionally, first. Second, you can read back the notes from the meeting. Third, if you’re a freelancer, set a limit on revisions, but if you’re an employee, try to set up another meeting, revisit the objectives & design concepts from the first meeting, and discuss what needs to be improved and the reasons behind it."

Revisions can be frustrating, but it's even more frustrating when the project owner doesn’t know what they want, haha...
