Portfolio design is one of the benchmarks for assessment when we apply for a job because the portfolio illustrates how we work.
In all available design job openings, a portfolio is definitely requested, whether the applicant wants to provide it in the form of a PDF, an online portfolio (Dribbble, Behance, Pinterest), or even their own portfolio website. Speaking of web portfolios, web portfolios have advantages that other portfolio media do not.
Flexible
Since it is web-based, HR can access it much more easily; it can be opened on a desktop, tablet, or mobile device, and it is definitely responsive.
Unlimited content
If you have a web portfolio, no matter how much content you have and want to store on the website for showcase purposes to catch HR's attention, you can absolutely do it!
Interactive
A web portfolio can also be a great medium to create a more interactive experience. You can design the button behavior and animations to make it more attractive.
Easy maintenance
You can add or delete projects, edit content, update showcases, and so forth.
SEO
With good SEO, your web portfolio can be easily found and accessed by others, whether it is HR or potential clients who want to collaborate. Who knows?
On the other hand, having a web portfolio can be a plus point in the eyes of HR or recruiters that you are someone who is dedicated to your work, has a strong passion, and is professional. We know that building a portfolio is not easy for some people, especially since this is in the form of a website, not a PDF, not a screenshot.
The good news is that you have a much greater chance of being accepted for a job and standing out among other candidates. To stand out from the crowd is not easy because to be distinguished from others, you must have a different value than the majority.
Q: "What if I already have a web portfolio but still don’t pass?"
A: "It could be that it's not the website itself. The web design might be fine but perhaps the content is lacking, or maybe the showcase is insufficient; there are many factors. Try to check where you think it's lacking and how you can improve those lesser aspects to be much better."
So, are you interested in creating a web portfolio? Or do you already have one?
